7.9.3.5.  Shapes -> Lines

  • Line through 2 points

    1. First move the cursor to the desired Start point of the line.

      Line through 2 points

      Line through 2 points

    2. Confirm with a single mouse click.

    3. Drag line to End point.

-> Live dimensions are displayed. Under PARTdesigner -> Extras menu -> Settings... -> Sketcher (feat.) you can enable or disable the feature, furthermore set a desired color. (See Section 7.18.4.2.2, “ Performance ”.)

    4. Fix the line with a single mouse click.

    5. If needed, edit the point coordinates in the docking window Edit element.

With pressed Ctrl key, you can continue a polyline with only one click. You don't have to select the start point of the next line again. In this way you are much faster.

  • Create parallel line

    Parallels to an existing line

    1. Click on desired line.

-> Parallel is attached to the cursor.

    2. Fix the parallel at the desired position with a single mouse click.

    3. If needed, adjust the Distance to base line in the docking window Edit element.

  • Perpendicular to line through point

    Perpendicular line to base line

    1. Select the Base line.

-> The perpendicular line is attached to the cursor.

    2. Determine the end point of the perpendicular line and fix it by mouse click.

    3. If needed, adjust the parameters in the docking window Edit element or in the dialog box Change parameter.

  • Midpoint perpendicular to line

Midpoint perpendicular to base line with same length

    Click on the base line.

-> The midpoint perpendicular is set.

  • Angle bisector between two lines

    Angle bisector between two lines

    1. Select the first line.

    2. Select the second line.

    3. Choose the possible position (variant) of the bisector (via mouse cursor).

  • Line at angle to line with length

Line at angle "a" with length "L" to any other line

    1. Select base line.

-> The line to be positioned is attached to the cursor.

    2. Choose the start point (does not have to be on the base line!).

    3. Position the end point.

    4. If needed, adjust exact Angle and Length in the docking window Edit element or in the dialog box Change parameter.

    [Note]Note

The angle a refers to the base line and not to the horizontal!

For Line at angle to line with length, the activation of "Snap to grid" is not performed under Quick settings -> Snap to grid, but under PARTdesigner -> Settings... -> Sketcher (feat.) -> Grid -> Scalar parameters. For example, if the width is set to 5, the radius will snap at multiples of 5, regardless in which direction the mouse is moved.

  • Line at angle to horizontal, length

Line at angle "a" to imaginary horizontals

    1. Select start point of line.

    2. Position the end point of line.

    3. If needed, adjust Start point, Angle and Length in the docking window Edit element or in the dialog box Change parameter.

    [Note]Note

    Angle a refers to a horizontal (0°).

For Line at angle to horizontal, length, the activation of "Snap to grid" is not performed under Quick settings -> Snap to grid, but under PARTdesigner -> Settings... -> Sketcher (feat.) -> Grid -> Scalar parameters. For example, if the width is set to 5, the radius will snap at multiples of 5, regardless in which direction the mouse is moved.

  • Horizontal line

Horizontal construction line in distance to y point of origin

    1. Click on the button.

-> The horizontal is attached to the cursor.

    2. Select distance and fix the horizontal with a single mouse click.

    3. If needed, adjust Distance and Half-length (default 50) in the docking window Edit element or in the dialog box Change parameter.

  • Vertical line

Vertical construction line in distance to x point of origin

    1. Click on the button.

-> The vertical is attached to the cursor.

    2. Select distance and fix the vertical with a single mouse click.

    3. If needed, adjust Distance and Half-length (default 50) in the docking window Edit element or in the dialog box Change parameter.

  • Line tangent to 2 circles

Tangent line between two circles or arcs

    1. Select the first circle/arc.

    2. Select the second circle/arc.

  • Tangent from point to circle

Tangent line between Point and a Circle or Arc.

    1. Select the start point.

    2. Select the Circle/Arc.

    3. If needed, adjust the Projection point (start point of the tangent) in the docking window Edit element or in the dialog box Change parameter.
