7.12.17.  Save as CSV file

You can export a table as a CSV or XLSX file.

The following changes occur as soon as you export from the Variable Manager:

  • View influences the output

    All variables that are visible in the Variable Manager are exported. The view is based on the filters applied. You can select several variables by holding down CTRL and clicking and export only the selected variables by simply right-clicking > Export tables [Table export].

  • Deactivated headers

    The Norm number [Standard number], Norm title [Standard title] and Standard name headers are deactivated.

  • New headers

    You can export the headers storage location [Save location], variable groups [Groups of variables], variable types [Variable types], variables hidden status [Variables hidden status], variables translatable status [Variables translatable status] and project paths [Project paths].

  • Duplicates after export

    A single line in the Variable Manager can represent a variable in several projects. This is displayed in the project list on the right-hand side of the dialog box when a line is selected. When exporting such a variable, it is duplicated for each project to which it belongs. This is necessary in order to separate their values correctly per project.

    Note: This only happens if the "Project paths" header and/or the "Export values" setting is activated. If both settings are deactivated, no duplication is performed.

  • Restrictions

    The Variable Manager supports the loading of large quantities of projects or even entire catalogs. Such large exports are associated with some restrictions. Since variables are duplicated, the number of required columns may exceed the XLSX limit of ~18200. In this case, the output is truncated and a warning is displayed. XLSX exports compress the table data. This leads to high RAM consumption and longer execution times for large exports.

  1. Above the table or in the File menu, the command tables Export [Table export].

    → The Tables export [Table export] window opens.

  2. In the File path area, select whether you want to create a CSV or an XLSX file.

    Enter a complete path and file name for the CSV or XLSX file as the storage location. Click on the ... button opens the Save file as... window, in which you can change the default storage location (installation directory of eCATALOG 3Dfindit ).

  3. Specify which components (header [Header], variables [Variables] ) are to be transferred and what the line structure [Layout of lines] should look like.

    [Important]Important

    The header data [Header] and line structure [Layout of lines] must be specified in exactly the same way during import as during export, otherwise the CSV cannot be interpreted correctly.

    Header:

    You can use the Export header checkbox to include the header row as the first column in the exported table.

    Tables that have been exported with this option cannot be imported in older versions (i.e. all versions prior to v12.11).

    The selection of possible header rows changes depending on whether you come from the variable management in PARTproject or from the table export [Table export] option in PARTdesigner.

    Line structure [Layout of lines]

    You can use the Transpose columns and rows checkbox to select whether the row layout should be transposed.

    Not transposed means one variable per column. Transposed means that columns and rows are swapped and there is one variable per row. This is supported for CSV and XLSX files.

    A transposed table can also be imported again via the PARTdesigner. In the chapter Section 7.12.18, “ Import CSV file ” you can learn more about the import of tables.

    Select the separator [Separator], text separator [Text identifying character] and the separator for decimal places [Separators for mantissa].

    Variables

    Use the Fixed values, Value range variables and Characteristic algorithms [Attribute algorithms] checkboxes to export the respective variable type. You can select and deselect individual or all variables in the table below.

    You can use the Export values checkbox to output the values for the respective header. If the box is not checked, no values are output. If Export header is also unchecked, no file is generated.

    If the option Resolve value ranges with names as values [Resolve ranges of values with names as values] is checked, its fixed value is also output in addition to the default value.

  4. Confirm with OK.

    → The file is generated.
