1.4.4.5. Named User " ("Dynamic User") tab page

"Named user" licenses are "centrally administrable" node-locked licenses. Like real "floating" licenses, they are issued to an FLM server and distributed by it. Unlike floating licenses, however, they are not released again immediately after use. Each instance of a named user license is permanently assigned to a user account, and this assignment is made automatically when a client requests a license for such a product. Existing assignments can be changed here after a certain minimum holding time. The assignment can also be made manually (see below for information on the setting).

With this license type, the operation of multi-user operating systems (terminal server) is possible.

"Named User [Named User] " tab page

Named User tab page: In the Named User Products [Named-User Products] dialog area, all products are listed in the Product column.[22] The columns Number assigned [Assigned count], Still available [remaining free], Total and Last change [Latest change] provide additional information for each license product.

The number of active sessions may not exceed the total number of licenses.

If a license is requested and all licenses have already been assigned (value in Number assigned [Assigned count] column == value in Total column), a corresponding message appears. In this case, the license of another user must be assigned to the user administratively using Replace. However, this only takes effect once a license has actually been released.

Assigned users dialog area:

  • Users [User]: All users are listed regardless of the assignment type (up to the total number of licenses).

  • Date of assignment:

Once a client requires a license, it is dynamically assigned from the pool of available licenses. The current date is entered.

  • Locked until:

The blocking period starts with assignment and is 30 days.

Exception: For automatic assignment, the blocking period is only 1 day. After 1 day a re-assignment could be performed in favour of another user. Afterwards the 30-day blocking period applies.

Once the blocking period expires, the license can be assigned to a new user.

"Assigned users [Assigned users] " and "Known users [Known users] ": blocking period here in the example with automatic assignment 1 day

"Assigned users [Assigned users] " and "Known users [Known users] ": blocking period here in the example with automatic assignment 1 day

  • Assignment type:

There are two possible basic settings for each licensed product:

    1. Assign automatically? = Yes

The checkbox in the column Assign automatically? is activated. This is the default setting.

All users who have ever accessed the license server are displayed under Known users. All users who have been assigned a license are displayed under Assigned users. (Users are not removed automatically. This is only possible manually)

Automatic [automatic] " is displayed in the Assignment type column.

      [Note]Note

Automatic assignment [Assign automatically] works smoothly until all licenses have been assigned. After that, administrative intervention is required by means of replace [Replace].

Users whose blocking period expired can be replaced. Initially it means that the license is reserved for the new user, but possibly is not immediately available, only if any license has been released by ending a session.

When a user has not been online for more than 200 days, the license assigned to him is considered for auto-reassignment again, if a new unknown user comes in. That license which has not been used for the longest time is used.

    2. Assign automatically? = No

The checkbox in the column Automatically assign? [Assign automatically?] is deactivated.

In this case the desired user has to be manually assigned for a certain license product by administration.

All users who have ever accessed the license server are displayed under Known users. If the desired user is not yet listed, add it using the input field and click on the Add button.

      1. Select a license product.

      2. Select the desired user in the Known users dialog area.

Should the list be very long then you can filter by any text string of the user name.

      3. Add the user by clicking Add or Replace in the Assigned users dialog area. Manual [Manually] " is displayed in the Assignment type column.

        [Note]Note

Replacement [Replace] is only possible after the blocking period has expired.

      4. When everything is set correctly, click on Save.

        Save...

        Save...

        [Note]Note

If you have made a change by mistake, exit the dialog without saving; even if you restore the initial situation and save, a new blocking period will be entered.

With Remove, you can remove a user added with Add in the Assigned users dialog area; however, only as long as it has not yet been saved.

Regardless of the setting under Automatically assign? [Assign automatically?], another user can be assigned after the blocking period has expired using Replace.

[22] Named User licenses have the abbreviation 'D' at the end of the product code.
