5.9.2.3.3.  Variable groups - columns (variables) visible / hidden

The corresponding setting option for variable groups can be found in PARTproject via Tabbed page Settings → Category General → Menu item VariablesVariable groups [Groups of variables]...

General function

The variable groups [Groups of variables] option is used to control two functions in the user interface:

  1. Visibility status of variables (columns) in 3Dfindit / PARTdataManager / PARTcommunity.

Variables that do not belong to a group are not displayed in 3Dfindit / PARTdataManager / PARTcommunity. Main variables and secondary variables [Secondary variables] can be shown and hidden in 3Dfindit / PARTdataManager / PARTcommunity.

  2. Grouping of variables: The illustration above shows how you can show and hide individual groups.

User interface in PARTproject

If groups have already been defined (automatically via the NB/LINA affiliation or manually), the MAIN and SECONDARY groups are displayed with the respective assigned variables.

Order/Groups of Variables

Order/Groups of Variables

[Note]Note

If no groups have yet been defined for a project[33] (recognizable by the empty field Variable groups [Groups of variables] ),

then the variables areautomatically grouped when the Variable groups [Groups of variables] dialog is opened for the first time.

The automatic grouping is performed according to the following scheme:

  • Variables that occur in NB and LINA are assigned to the main variables [Main variables] group, the others to the secondary variables [Secondary variables] group.

  • If the setting Sequence/groups of variables - Keep only variables with characteristic algorithm that form NB in the MAIN [Order/groups of variables - initially add only variables with feature algorithm used in NB in the MAIN group] is set, the variables entered in the lines Variable with order number and Variable with type key [Type code] are also automatically transferred to the MAIN group.

  • Variables of type "Algorithm", which are not part of the NB, are invisible by default and are not assigned to any group during the automatic grouping.

  • Variables, which have been set invisible explicitly (in V8.1), are not assigned to any group and thus are invisible.

After closing the dialog box the group assignment is displayed in the field.

You can adjust group assignment anytime.

Click on the Browse button ... to open the Variable groups [Groups of variables] dialog box.

  • Left column | Subdivision into groups

In the left-hand column under Groups, you can switch between main variables [Main variables] and secondary variables [Secondary variables] (if necessary also between other manually created variables [Secondary variables] ), which are then displayed in the middle column.

  • Middle columns | Variables list of the selected group

The middle column shows the content of the selected group.

  • Right column | List of all variables

All variables are listed in the right column. In the input field at the bottom right, you can enter anything to filter the variables. [Input of any terms is possible. For example "diameter" will also find "outer diameter" and "inner diameter".

The variables NB and LINA cannot be assigned to a group and are always shown in gray in the right-hand column.

Variables shown in red are not in any group and are invisible in the table or in 3Dfindit / PARTdataManager / PARTcommunity.

    Online visibility checkbox:

    • If the option is activated, variables are displayed on 3Dfindit / PARTcommunity, although they may otherwise be hidden.

    • If the option is deactivated, variables are not displayed on 3Dfindit / PARTcommunity, although they may otherwise be visible.

The visibility can only be adjusted for fixed values become. [Visibility can only be adjusted for fixed values.] Therefore, the checkboxes for value range variables [Value range variables] () and variables with characteristic algorithm [Attribute algorithm] () are cleared.

  • Symbols and icons

Variable is in the Main variables group
Variable is in the group Secondary variables

Black font: Variable is part of the Main variables or Secondary variables group and is visible in 3Dfindit / PARTdataManager / PARTcommunity.

    [Note]Note

If there is no automatic group assignment for old projects, the newly added variable is treated according to the "old" scheme and assigned to the "Secondary variables [Secondary variables]" group and therefore has a black font color.

Red font: Variable is not assigned to a group and is hidden in 3Dfindit / PARTdataManager / PARTcommunity.
Gray font: Variable was newly created in PARTdesigner and is initially not assigned to any group and therefore not visible in 3Dfindit / PARTdataManager / PARTcommunity.
Mark all variables in selected group
    Remove variable assignment
    Hide / hide variable
Assigns the variables from the standard designation; here you can apply an additional filter to take into account either all (make no selection), only characteristic algorithm [Attribute algorithm], only value range [Value range] or only variables with fixed values [Variable with fixed values].

Add the selected variable to the selected group. Alternatively, the variable can be moved using drag & drop.

    Reset filter

Hiding and showing columns
  • Hide

If a variable is not part of of any group, it is invisible. To change the assignment to a group, select a group in the left column and Click Remove. The Variable is displayed in the right column, is now shown in red and thus faded out.

  • Fade in

At to make a hidden column visible again, select on the left, select the group that should hold the variable and drag the then drag and drop the desired variable from the right-hand column into the middle column or use the arrow key .

  • Handling of newly added variables

Initial situation: A new variable has been added in the Variable Manager.

    PARTdesigner > Variable Manager

    PARTdesigner > Variable Manager

Newly added variables in PARTdesigner are marked in PARTproject in the dialog window Variable groups [Groups of variables] in gray or red.

PARTproject → "Variable groups [Groups of variables]" dialog window

PARTproject"Variable groups [Groups of variables]" dialog window

    • Gray: Main variable (part of NB or LINA) or secondary variable [visible in 3Dfindit / PARTdataManager ].

    • Red: Not belonging to any group (e.g. feature algorithm, but not part of the NL) [not visible in 3Dfindit / PARTdataManager ].

Adjust the group membership as required (see above).

    [Note]Note

However, if (for old projects) no automatic group assignment has yet taken place (see above), the newly added variable is handled according to the "old" scheme and assigned to the "Secondary variables [Secondary variables] " group. In any case, you can adjust the group assignment.

Grouping variables

To create groups, see Section 5.9.2.3.2, “ Creating variable groups (at catalog level) ”.

Mark a group in the left column.

Per Drag & Drop pull the desired variables from the right column (list of all variables) into the middle column or use the arrow button .

If you close the dialog with OK, the groupings are displayed under Variable groups [Groups of variables].

MAIN(ARTNR);SECONDARY(BI1,BI2,BI3,BA)

Special settings

Order/groups of variables - Keep only variables with feature algorithm that form NB in the MAIN [Order/groups of variables - initially add only variables with feature algorithm used in NB in the MAIN group]:

Settings dialog box

Settings dialog box

Basically, when the Variable groups [Groups of variables] dialog is opened for the first time, variables are automatically extracted from the NB and assigned to groups if no groups have been set yet.

A distinction must be made between the following cases:

  • Option activated: Only algorithm variables are extracted from the NB

  • Option deactivated: All variables (variables with algorithms, fixed values and value ranges) are extracted from the NL

[33] For example, the project was created before this feature was available.
