1.5.  Transfer to CAD (with and without interface)

Once a component (an assembly) has been clearly defined, you can transfer it to your CAD system.

Export setting options: See the "Transfer to CAD" tab page.

Export of 3D or 2D component to 3D or 2D CAD system

The following matrix provides information on 2D derivation for the various combinations of 3D/2D component and 3D/2D CAD system.

3D CAD system 2D CAD system
3D component

No 2D derivation is required.

A 2D derivation must be created before the export.

If you want to export to your CAD system without a previous derivation, an error message appears or the Transfer to CAD button is not yet available (grayed out).

Detailed information on 2D derivation can be found at Section 1.6, “ Create 2D derivation.

2D component

When exporting to 3D CAD systems please note that the respective CAD system has a 2D mode, which is active at the moment.

Parts, already available in the 2D format can be exported without 2D derivation.

Export with and without 3Dfindit interface

Components can be transferred to CAD with or without a 3Dfindit interface.

Export without 3Dfindit interface

Export without 3Dfindit interface

The The following figure shows the export call with and without 3Dfindit interface.

Export to a CAD system with 3Dfindit interface

[Note]Note

Parts exported from 3Dfindit are saved in the so-called pool path. If a part is exported again, it is not generated again but is taken from this pool. This path is defined in the settings options of the 3Dfindit interface.

Click the Transfer to CAD command either in the Export menu or in the toolbar.

-> The selected component is transferred directly to the CAD system. A placement dialog is available for certain components.[59] [60]

Information on all CAD interfaces (overview, the individual functions, placement dialog, etc.) can be found at Chapter 2, Calling up ENTERPRISE 3Dfindit (Professional) from CAD systems in ENTERPRISE 3Dfindit (Professional) - User.

Export to a CAD system without a 3Dfindit interface

Even if there is notyeta 3Dfindit connection for your CAD system, you still have the option of getting parts from 3Dfindit into your CAD system. To do this, the respective part must first be exported to your computer's hard disk. From there, it is then imported into your CAD system.

Hereto proceed as follows:

  1. Open the format overviews either in the Export menu or in the toolbar using the arrow symbol to open the format overviews.

Example: Formats from "3D system neutral [3D system neutral] "

Example: Formats from "3D system neutral [3D system neutral] "

    [Note]Note

When selecting via the toolbar, the last selection is displayed as the main menu item until a new export format is selected.

  2. From the different export formats select the desired one.

  3. Enter the required information on the dialog page that opens and confirm with OK.

    Exemplarily "Export using STEP format"

    Exemplarily "Export using STEP format"

-> The file is saved at the specified location.

  4. Import this file into your CAD system.

[59] If a "valid" model is open in the CAD system, the "Transfer to CAD [Transfer to CAD] " button in the PARTdataManager is automatically active.

[60] The "Transfer to CAD [Transfer to CAD]" button remains active, regardless of whether it is subsequently called up from the 3Dfindit menu or you switch directly to the PARTdataManager.
