4.4.2.1.1.  Geometric search (individual part)

Make the settings and then click on Apply and search.

  1. Perform the desired settings:

    • Search template:

      • Standard search: In most cases, the standard search is the best choice.

      • Comprehensive search [Broad search]: This search has better results on average, but a major disadvantage: Even with extremely similar parts, a similarity of close to 100% is not achieved.

      • Search for profiles: Best choice when searching for profiles.

      • Duplicate search: This template was mainly created for searching for duplicates. It works very well with high similarities, but the results with lower similarity have less significance.

    • Include component size [Include Part Size]: Yes/No

If the option has been set, some results may not occur in the result list, even though they are geometrically similar, however, have other sizes.

      [Note]Note
      • In manufacturer catalogs not all table lines are geometrically indexed by default.

This means that you may not receive any hits if the Include part size [Include Part Size] option is activated, even though there are similar parts.

So better disable the option and finally filter the result table for a fitting characteristic.

      • In own part catalogs normally 100% of all table lines are indexed.

      • A 100% indexing can be made up for administratively at any time.[a]

      • If all table rows are indexed, it certainly makes sense to activate the Include part size [Include Part Size] option when searching for manufacturer parts. For in-house parts catalogs, it can also make sense to determine similar parts with a different size.

      [a] See Geo search index.

    • Ignore mirrored parts: Yes/No

      Example:

      Search part

If activated, the result on the right is omitted.

Right part is a mirror image of the left one.

Right part is a mirror image of the left one.

    • Include geometric features: If a component has features that are not very important in relation to the overall size, these are weighted more heavily when activated.

      a) This may lead to an exclusion of parts (if features differ) or b) to a higher ranking (if the basic shape is not very similar, but the geometrical features are).

      Example:

      1. When disabling the option, the bracket will occur in the result list due to his similar basic shape, even though it has no holes.

When enabling the option the bracket is excluded from the result list.

      2. If a result with small holes not relevant in comparison to the total size has a basic shape not quite similar, but the same holes it will get a higher ranking when activating the option.

  2. Click Apply and search.

-> Results within the set similarity are found and displayed.

-> In the search field, the search parameter (or a number of) is displayed.
